Groups, Projects & Tasks
Organise your team, manage collaborative projects, and track work items.
Groups
Groups are the organisational foundation of Libre Biotech. Every investigation belongs to a group, and group membership controls data access.
Creating a group
- Navigate to More → Groups
- Click Create Group
- Enter a name and description
- You become the group Leader
Managing members
- Invite — Send email invitations to colleagues. They'll receive a link to join your group.
- Roles — Assign Leader, Manager, or Member roles to control permissions
- Remove — Leaders can remove members from the group
Dual-group access
Some workflows involve two groups — for example, a research group submitting samples to a core facility. Libre Biotech supports dual-group access: both the researcher's group and the facility's group can see processes and samples they're involved in.
Projects
Projects are collaborative workspaces within a group. They provide a focused view of related work and include task management.
Creating a project
- Navigate to your group page
- Click New Project
- Enter a title and description
- Link relevant processes or studies
Project page
The project view shows:
- Linked processes and studies
- Team members
- Task board
- Activity feed
Tasks
Tasks are trackable work items within a project.
Creating tasks
- From a project page, click New Task
- Fill in: title, description, assignee, due date, priority
- Click Create
Task features
- Status tracking — Move tasks through your workflow (To Do, In Progress, Done, etc.)
- Assignees — Assign tasks to one or more team members
- Comments — Discuss progress and decisions within the task
- Subtasks — Break large tasks into smaller actionable items
- Dependencies — Mark tasks that block other tasks
- Templates — Create reusable task templates for common workflows
Process reviews
Processes can be formally reviewed by designated reviewers — useful for quality assurance, data validation, or regulatory compliance.
Review workflow
- Request review — The process owner requests a review from a specific person
- Start review — The reviewer accepts the review request
- Submit decision — The reviewer approves or rejects with comments
- Sign off — The reviewer signs the process, creating a permanent audit record
Pending reviews appear in the reviewer's dashboard and in the My Reviews page.
Share links
Share links allow you to give view-only access to specific content without requiring the recipient to create an account or join a group.
- Scope — Share investigations, processes, or individual files
- Security — Optional password protection, expiry date, maximum view count
- Management — View and revoke active links from My Shares
Entity comments
Any entity (investigation, study, process, sample, experiment) can have comments attached. Comments support threaded discussion and generate notifications for the entity owner. Use comments for:
- Asking questions about a dataset or method
- Noting observations or issues
- Recording informal review feedback
