Discussions and comments
Discussions on Libre Biotech happen directly on the research objects they relate to, keeping context close to the work.
Entity comments
Every investigation, process, sample, and study has a comment section. Use comments to:
- Ask questions about methods or results
- Leave review feedback on processes
- Note observations or deviations from protocol
- Discuss next steps with collaborators
Comments support threaded replies — click Reply on any comment to start a sub-thread. Comments are visible to all group members with access to the entity.
Group and project posts
Groups and projects have activity feeds where members can post updates:
- Text content with formatting
- File attachments
- Threaded comments on posts
- Pinning for important announcements
Use posts for general team communication — "Starting RNA extraction batch 2 tomorrow", "New protocol version published", etc.
Community tab on the dashboard
The gold Community button on the dashboard opens a discovery feed showing:
- Activity from people you follow — see what colleagues are working on
- Recent public protocols — newly published protocols from the community
- Training courses — available learning resources
- Latest news — platform announcements and updates
- Public investigations — discoverable research from other groups
User profiles
Every user has a profile page showing:
- Name, affiliation, and ORCID
- Bio and avatar
- Expertise tags
- Contribution statistics (protocols authored, processes, reviews)
- Research investigations
- Recent activity
Edit your profile from the Account menu → My Profile → Edit Profile.
Following
Follow other users to see their activity in your Community feed. Visit a user's profile and click Follow. Your follow counts are shown on your profile and in the Community tab header.
People directory
The People Directory lists all platform members with their affiliations and expertise. Use it to find collaborators or browse contributors.
News
Platform news (announcements, updates, release notes) appears on the Community tab and can be managed by administrators.
Notifications
The notification system alerts you to activity relevant to your work:
- Review requests and decisions
- Comments and replies on your entities
- Task assignments and updates
- Group invitations
Configure which events trigger notifications from the Account menu → Notification Preferences.
